Malawi national football team captain, John CJ Banda, is in discussions to rejoin Blue Eagles FC following his departure from UD Songo.

Banda officially left the Mozambican club after his loan deal expired, with UD Songo confirming his exit on their official Facebook page on Friday, March 7, 2025. The club also parted ways with Fopa and Jimmy Ukonde.

Since returning from Mozambique, Banda has been training with Blue Eagles, fueling speculation about a potential comeback. However, the experienced midfielder has remained reserved about his next move.

“Right now, I can’t say anything until the appropriate time comes. My representatives will reveal all the details in due course,” Banda said.

"Eagles open to Banda’s return"

Blue Eagles FC Chief Administration Officer (CAO), Muhammad Ali Adin, acknowledged Banda’s value to the club and the national team, confirming that talks are underway regarding his future.

“John Banda informed us last month that his loan contract with UD Songo would not be renewed, and I can confirm that he is back. As a club, we will have discussions with him to determine the way forward. Once we reach a decision, we will communicate it to all stakeholders,” Adin said.

He further explained that since Banda initially joined UD Songo on loan from Blue Eagles, he has now returned to his parent club as per the terms of the agreement.

Beyond football, Banda is also a police officer, which adds another dimension to his career decisions. Adin emphasized that the Malawi Police Service (MPS) will engage Banda to explore the best way to integrate him into both his professional and football roles.

“People should also remember that John is a police officer. As MPS, we will sit down with him to see how best we can utilize him both as a senior officer and a talented athlete.
